This is the 4th workshop organized in Athens, Greece. It is organized by members (authors and editors) of the Cochrane Gynaecology and Fertility Group, the Cochrane Child Health and Bias Methods Group, and the Gynaecological, Neuro-oncology and Orphan Cancer Group.

This one-day interactive course is addressed to clinicians, researchers, public health specialists and other healthcare professionals and the level of expertise required is intermediate and above.
The objective of the workshop is to expand participants’ knowledge on the most important steps of a Cochrane review and to increase their understanding of the methods used for assessing risk of bias in included studies in systematic and Cochrane reviews. Cochrane’s recommended tool for assessing risk of bias in included studies will be introduced, its seven individual domains will be described explicitly and presented through examples of a recent Cochrane review published by authors, with particular attention to the interpretation and handling of bias.
As a result of attending this course, participants will be able to:
- understand the meaning and the importance of bias in included studies found in reports, systematic reviews and guidelines
- recognize the different types of bias in included studies
- practice on different ways of assessing and avoiding bias
- use Revman and its tools to explicitly inform about bias
- present results in the text and summarize findings of the risk of bias assessment
- become familiarized with “summary of findings table”
- understand the basic principles behind the GRADE approach and the 4 levels of quality of evidence
- summarize the findings of a systematic review or meta-analysis in abstract and in plain language summary
- interpret the results and draw conclusions.
