Making Evidence Live – Introduction to Social Media/Blogging Workshop

Facilitated by: Douglas Badenoch, Caroline Blaine and Andre Tomlin

Come and join the BMJ and the National Elf Service in live sharing critical appraisals of important new research using blogs and social media. Social Media and blogging is essential for those interested in dissemination of their work. This workshop is designed to take a hands on approach with participants gaining the experience to sign up to social media, to formulate a blog strategy including the basics of how to get started.

Participants will:

  1. Write up an evidence appraisal in a blog format
  2. Develop their skills for writing online
  3. Plan and execute a promotional campaign using Twitter and other social media platforms.

We will get you up and running in writing your own blogs about important new evidence in your discipline.  You will then conduct your own real time social media campaign to promote your blog.

Along the way we’ll look at:

  • How other people are using new media to promote evidence
  • Software tools for managing content and social media
  • How to write engaging evidence summaries in a blog format
  • Using images and other media to liven things up a bit
  • How manage conversations online
