Scoping reviews: what they are and how you can do them

This webinar is the third in a series that Cochrane Learning Live is running in partnership with GESI: the Global Evidence Synthesis Initiative. This webinar is for anyone interested in learning about scoping reviews.

Dr Andrea Tricco Canada Research Chair in Knowledge Synthesis, will give the main presentation on 'Scoping reviews: what they are and how you can do them'. Scoping reviews can be used to map the literature available on a topic, identify key concepts, theories, sources of evidence and gaps in research. The definition of a scoping review, examples of scoping reviews, steps of the scoping review process, and methods used in 494 scoping reviews from the literature will be presented.

Kafayat Oboirien from Centre for Health Policy, University of Witwatersrand will present on 'Experiences of a scoping review process: Strengthening clinical governance in low and middle income countries'. The presentation will entail the process of question and conceptual framework development, search strategy and role of collaborators, developing inclusion and exclusion criteria – striking a balance between depth and breadth, using a systematic review platform and dealing with large full text through a two stage screening process.

There will be an opportunity for questions during the webinar.
