Systematic Reviews In Health - University of Portsmouth online course

This online distance learning course aims to equip participants with the skills to conduct a systematic review. It is designed for busy health care professionals, such as nurses, doctors, and professionals allied to medicine, who are keen to obtain a postgraduate qualification in a flexible, timely manner. The course materials will be made available to participants throughout the registration period.

On this course participants will:

  • Gain an overview of systematic review methods and learn how to plan their systematic review including identifying suitable topics.
  • Learn about risk of bias, different types of data, appraising a systematic review, including constructing risk of bias tables and accurately documenting decision making.
  • Learn how to use computer software to conduct a meta-analysis, write and present their data including the practical application of the unique DORIS user-friendly tool for assisting interpretation of results and writing up.

A personal tutor will help support participant's learning along with an invitation to take part in web-based discussion forums with experienced course team members and other students to share ideas, develop protocols and find solutions to complex problems within the field of systematic review.  

Successful completion of the course will help health professionals gain a better understanding of evidence based healthcare, enhance practice decision-making, and provide participants with the skills to carry out a systematic review.

Start: 8th September 2016 or 2nd February 2017

Duration: 1 year full-time distance learning or 2 years part-time distance learning.

Course fee: full time students £1,400, part time students £700 p/a
